Those data confirmed that the antioxidant defense of the blood increased steadily with the increasing juice intake. During the last month of the experiment, daily juice intake increased to three glasses.īefore the trial and at the end of each month, the scientists ran a series of tests on the blood of each participant. During the second month, each recruit drank two glasses daily. For the first month, each person drank a daily 8-ounce glass of either the sugared or surgarfree cranberry-juice cocktail. In a follow-up trial, Vinson’s team put 20 adults, mostly middle age and all with moderately elevated, unhealthy total-blood-cholesterol concentrations, on a cranberry-juice regimen. This time, he notes, “we had a good antioxidant effect for the whole 7 hours, even after that blast of high-fructose corn syrup and bagel at lunch.” On another day, he repeated the tests, this time giving each volunteer an 8-ounce glass of the sugar-sweetened cranberry juice cocktail. After a bagel and soft drink at lunchtime, the assays continued and showed that the potentially unhealthy pro-oxidant effect lasted a total of 7 hours, Vinson told Science News Online. To Vinson’s surprise, the blood actually fostered oxidation. Over the next 4 hours, the researchers periodically sampled the volunteers’ blood and tested its ability to quash oxidants. To evaluate whether it was the cranberry juice or the sugar and vitamin C in the cocktail that provided any benefit in the new study, the Scranton chemists offered just an 8-ounce glass of the sugar water and the vitamin to 10 men and women as a breakfast drink. With funding and cranberries supplied by the Cranberry Institute, he then investigated antioxidants delivered to the blood by juice. Yet even in this cocktail form, Vinson found, 27 percent cranberry juice still ranked second only to pure grape juice in its ability to defuse oxidants. However, because cranberries are so tart, their juice has to be diluted and sweetened to be palatable. When the chemists investigated pure cranberry juice, they found its antioxidant punch exceeded by 50 percent the potency of its next closest juice competitor, grape juice. Several of cranberry’s polyphenol antioxidants are procyanidins, the same family of pigments that make cherries red. Overall, fruits surpassed the veggies, “and cranberries had more antioxidants than any other fruit,” Vinson observes. In earlier studies, the Scranton team surveyed the antioxidant potential of several fruits and vegetables. However, epidemiological studies by others have correlated HDL-cholesterol increases of this magnitude with about a 40 percent drop in heart-disease risk, Vinson notes. The juice didn’t affect low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or triglycerides, which are other fatty substances in the blood. Twelve chose the low-cal juice, which was sweetened solely with a sugar-free compound.ĭrinking cranberry juice three times a day over the course of a month increased all the volunteers’ blood concentration of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol–the so-called good cholesterol–by 10 percent. He offered his recruits the type available in stores, which is heavily sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup and supplemented with extra vitamin C, or a low-calorie alternative that the Scranton scientists concocted daily from pure juice. In his latest study, Vinson and his colleagues provided 20 men and women 8-ounce servings of cranberry juice cocktail, which contains 27 percent juice. Indeed, a large number of disorders associated with aging–including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and several types of dementia–have been linked to damage caused by a slow and unremitting onslaught of oxidants. As antioxidants, these compounds quash the damage that natural oxidants can do in the body. Many plant-based foods, especially the colorful ones, contain large quantities of polyphenols. Lane commented that Sapone's living room was one of the main places they worked on the drums. This allowed Lane to experiment recording drums in different ways and places, predominately around Sapone's home. Recording Brian Lane's drums was approached song-by-song, as opposed to recording all of the album's drums in succession. We're not really keeping tabs of how much everyone has at stake on each song". Vin might write a drum part or Brian might write a guitar part or whatever. Lacey later commented that "it was such a collaborative effort with the band. The band members were not limited by their normal roles within Brand New, with much instrument swapping and experimenting taking place in writing individual parts. The band would then build upon these ideas, recording everything as they worked. This is what you’re trying to do and you don't even realize it." Most of the songs were brought to the studio in acoustic form, sometimes as a complete song and sometimes as just a part or riff. He'll go to it, show it to you and tell you that that’s what needs to happen. Discussing Sapone's involvement, Lacey defined Sapone as having "as much at stake with the music as we do he's as invested in it as we are, sometimes more." Accardi described Sapone as having "an uncanny ability to hear something you’re doing and immediately track it to any song in his library that he stores in his brain. Īs with previous sessions, Mike Sapone acted as both a band member and co-producer, while the band were also involved in the album's production. During the first few months of writing and recording, the band were often working five or six days a week, beginning work in the morning and not leaving Sapone's basement studio until the early hours. Recording took place at Sapone's home studio in Bethpage, New York. With a number of songs already demoed by Accardi, the band began recording the album in March, 2008. This would also allow the band to remain local to their homes while recording, and also allow them to spend their advance from the label on general living costs, as opposed to production and studio costs. It was decided early on by the band that they would work with Sapone, using his studio. With previous album sessions, the band had always looked to maximize their labels resources, working with different producers and in expensive studios - but had always ended up coming back to Sapone. After his bandmates positively received some of the tracks he had been working on, he gained the confidence to show them more and ultimately take a larger role in writing the album's lyrics. Prior to recording, Accardi had been working on material with Sapone. Jesse Lacey commented that being signed to major label Interscope also shaped the sessions "we thought it‘d be more interesting to put a very un-commercial record out on a very commercial label". I think we all just had a great urge to try to write simple, loud rock songs and just get the point across immediately". Guitarist Vincent Accardi commented that "after The Devil and God, the structures of songs were a bit more complex and things were a little bit delicate. Brian Lane simply stated that as with previous recording sessions, the band had become bored of performing their older material and would naturally look to write and record songs that were different. Despite having previously received acclaim for redefining their sound record-to-record, the band felt little pressure to repeat this. With writing and recording commencing almost immediately after finishing touring, the band were inspired to capture the energy of their live performances. It debuted at number six in the United States, the band's first top-ten album. Daisy received mostly positive reviews from critics, who praised the band's continued progression, while fans were somewhat more divided, with drummer Brian Lane believing that they either seem to love it or hate it. The album leaked three weeks prior to its release, and the song " At the Bottom" was the only single released. Guitarist Vincent Accardi had a larger role in writing the album's lyrics, sharing the responsibility with frontman Jesse Lacey. The band looked to channel their live performances, as well as the noise of bands such as Fugazi, Polvo, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus Lizard, in order to produce the raw and often chaotic sound of the album. Brand New recorded the album in Sapone's studio in Bethpage, New York between 20. Daisy was co-produced by both the band and their longtime producer Mike Sapone. Daisy is the fourth studio album by American rock band Brand New, released Septemon Interscope. Even if Silksong is in fact a sequel, that does not mean it is a continuation of the same story.įirst of all, the goal of Silksong seems to be very different. Even though it seems like an impossible task, Team Cherry has been referring to Silksong as a sequel, which is why most assume the events of the new game happen after what has been shown in Hollow Knight. Particularly, the Siblings ending in which Hornet is sealed in the Black Egg Temple with the Knight to contain the infection. Many fans have expressed concerns about how Silksong will accommodate all the endings of Hollow Knight. In that sense, Silksong might be using a known character but interactions with it will greatly vary in this new installment. In contrast, Hornet has a clear personality and a backstory which will clearly set a different tone for the entire game. Even though the Knight has a will of its own, the main character does not really have a personality of any kind. Because of the way the Knight was created, players are led to believe that the main character of Hollow Knight is mostly a blank slate. Most importantly, Hornet is a much more complex character than the Knight was. Still, some of Hornet's contraptions seem to be able to affect how she jumps and attacks drastically. There were some ways to improve the Knight's movements in Hollow Knight through the charms such as the Dashmaster. Some of these tools will also affect the way Hornet moves through the space. Although there might be some movements that remain similar, Hornet's ability to move in different speeds will surely impact many aspects of the game like boss fights.Īdditionally, Hornet will now be using tools instead of charms to enhance her abilities. First of all, fans will see an important difference in terms of gameplay, since Hornet's abilities make her much more dynamic than the Knight. However, there are many things that set Hornet apart from the Knight. One of the reasons some could think that Silksong is just a continuation of Hollow Knight is the fact that the main character in the new game already played an important role in the first installment. RELATED: Elden Ring Fans Are Making Memes About Hollow Knight: Silksong Now Too New Main Character, Hornet Surely, Hollow Knight's deep lore has been one of the main reasons fans have fallen in love with the game, so it is only natural to expect more of that amazing (yet veiled) narrative. Most of the lore is not explicitly told, but scattered through the game in the form of dialogues, clues in the design of the map, slabs with inscriptions, descriptions in the journal, etc. Hollow Knight offers an interesting story which is mostly understood by connecting the dots along the game. Because of how great the first game did, some could think that Hollow Knight: Silksongis just a continuation of Hollow Knight. However, Team Cherry has claimed that the main goal is to offer a game that fulfills the standards that were set in the previous installment. Team Cherry's second game, Hollow Knight: Silksong has been in the making for a while now, and fans are waiting for more information about the new title. The UN proposed a partition plan (map 2 below), with a state for the Jews, another for the Palestinians, and an internationalized Jerusalem. The British Mandate for Palestine specifically defined Palestine as the area west of River Jordan.Īfter the end of World War II, Britain relinquished its Mandate over Palestine and requested the intervention of the UN. Britain decided to detach east of River Jordan–known today as Jordan-to give it to the Hashemite family, which is still ruling today. Palestine was geographically demarcated by the British Mandate (map 1). With support from different sources, including the British, the Jewish population in Palestine continued to gain influence and land. Just before the Balfour Declaration, the British promised the Arabs of Palestine an independent state on the same plot of land. In 1917, the British promised a Jewish homeland in Palestine through the Balfour Declaration. Waves of Jewish immigration arrived to Palestine during the Ottoman Rule and the British Mandate. Some Arabs add, since Abraham’s son Ishmael is the forefather of the Arabs, then God’s promise to the children of Abraham includes the Arabs too. The Palestinian claims are based on continuous residence for hundreds of years and on constituting the majority. Jewish claims to this land are based on the biblical promise to Abraham and his descendants and that Palestine was the site of the Jewish kingdom of Israel. Since the late 19 th century, it has been subjected to conflicting claims by Jewish and Arab national movements. The area-or at least parts of it- is sacred for Jews, Christians and Muslims. ‘Palestine’ is a region located to the south-east of the Mediterranean, comprised of modern Israel, the Gaza Strip and West Bank. ‘Palestinization’ of the conflict is an outcome of Arab reservation from entering direct war with Israel. After the 1967 war, it gradually became Palestinian-Israeli. The conflict was initially between Arab states and Israel. The Palestinian-Israeli conflict involves multiple zones of conflict, including Israel itself, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, East Jerusalem, the Syrian Golan Heights and the Sinai Peninsula. Just like those other options, though, it's a fairly complex endeavor to write CSS and JavaScript if you want to go beyond the basic options on the app's template UI. IA Writer allows custom templates for the output, like Scriviner and Ulysses and PanDoc. The reason to use this app over something slightly cheaper is the ability to export to formatted pdfs and html, including selecting some text and copying that to the clipboard as html, which ByWord also does. The only thing I don't believe is accessible in the app is the search function, which is a shame because it has the capacity to parse regexpressions-a very powerful way to search. Jarte needs the file translated to UTF-8 BOM before it can open it, as does LibreOffice. NotePad++ leaves the file alone and works fine. That's fine too, but IA Writer will just strip those bytes out again when opening the file. The latest version of Notepad will open it fine, and Word will prompt for the proper encoding, with UTF-8 as the default, but both will add a BOM when saving the file. That's great, but Windows uses a different code page by default, which will often make things like curly quotes and international characters turn into garbage when opening one of these files. Only issue is that, like VoiceDream Writer and most of these text editors, the files are encoded as UTF-8 with no byte-order mark (BOM). Produced by Columbia Pictures in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, Ghostbusters premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on July 9, 2016, and was released in the United States on July 15. The announcement of the female-led cast in 2015 drew a polarized response from the public and an internet backlash, leading to the film's IMDb page and associated YouTube videos receiving low ratings before the film's release. Many of the original film's cast members and their family members make cameo appearances in new roles, and Ramis is commemorated in the film's closing credits. Because of original cast member Bill Murray's refusal to commit to the project, and the death of fellow cast member Harold Ramis in 2014, Sony decided to reboot the series instead. You can expect Ghostbusters: Afterlife streaming on Starz in the middle of 2022.Īs for whether the original movies are on Netflix, the answer for the moment is no. Instead, because the movie is releasing in 2021, it’ll fall under Sony’s existing deal with Lionsgate’s Starz platform. Long-term the movie could come to Netflix given that in that press release it says, “Netflix will also license rights to select titles from SPE’s vast movie library.” The reason is that the new deal starts on January 1st, 2022 meaning Ghostbusters is not included. Ghostbusters: Afterlife won’t come to Netflix USĭespite Netflix signing a comprehensive new first window deal with Sony Pictures over the summer, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will not be among those first set of titles to come to Netflix. RECOMMENDATION: I like the blush as it serves as a highlighter as well. The effect is really subtle. The shade is decently pigmented and can be built as per need.It can be used sheerly as a highlighter as well as a blush.I love the glow effect it imparts. It stays for about 5-6 hours on my face in normal temperature. The peach effect is more visible on fairer skin tone while the highlighter effect will be more prominent on dusky skin tone. It imparts a healthy dose of shimmer when applied dry, and a very strong level of shimmer when applied wet.It blends easily and looks even on skin. The shimmer present is non-gritty and well blended in the shade. It didn’t clog my pores neither break me out. MY VIEWS:The powder itself is smooth and, while not that buttery to the touch, applies very evenly across the skin. It is very similar to Benefit Coralista because of its satin finish and color. Special tint pigments give your cheeks an ultra-pigmented. SHADE:Peachy Cheeky is a very pretty, subtle, bright peachy-pearly with slight pink tint shade. A review of research found that a supplement form of the herb significantly reduced fasting blood glucose within one to two weeks. Meanwhile, research suggests that allicin, a natural compound with antioxidant properties that’s found in garlic, may positively affect blood sugar levels. (While drawn from a large pool of participants, the study relied on self-reported questionnaires, which may leave room for error.) For example, a study of nearly 100,000 healthy men and women found that replacing 1 tablespoon (tbsp) of butter or margarine with an equal amount of olive oil correlated with a 5 to 7 percent lower risk of heart disease after four years. This type of fat may help lower cholesterol, a waxy substance that’s beneficial in small amounts, when traded in for less healthy fat sources like butter, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Olive oil, for example, contains a type of healthy fat known as monounsaturated fat. Smithson suggests choosing sauces with an olive oil and fresh garlic base, both of which offer potential heart-health benefits. Meanwhile, getting excess sodium in your diet can increase the risk of high blood pressure - one of the major risk factors for heart disease, notes the AHA. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), foods high in saturated fat can raise cholesterol levels in the blood, which may increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. “People with diabetes have a higher risk of heart disease, so it’s imperative to choose heart-healthy foods low in sodium and fat,” she says. Like other “white” foods to swap out of your diet (think: white bread, white rice, and yes, white pasta), ditch white sauce when preparing a more diabetes-friendly meal.Īs Anderson-Haynes notes, traditional cream-based sauces tend to have more saturated fat and sodium than other options. Skip Creamy Sauce in Favor of an Oil- or Tomato-Based Sauce “Nonstarchy vegetables are very high in fiber and have few carbohydrates, which means less effect on blood sugar,” says Anderson-Haynes. She recommends filling roughly half of your plate or bowl with options like kale, collard greens, arugula, broccoli, asparagus, cucumber, spinach, carrots, or mushrooms. Specifically, centering your pasta dish on nonstarchy, naturally low-calorie vegetables increases the amount of food and adds vitamins and minerals, Smithson says. To make your pasta bowl more diabetes-friendly, just add color - from veggies, that is. But an equal serving of whole-grain spaghetti noodles contains 180 calories, 39 g of carbs, and 7 g of fiber, meaning it is an excellent source of fiber. Two ounces (oz) of uncooked semolina spaghetti noodles (about 1 cup cooked) provides 200 calories, 42 g of carbs, and 3 g of fiber. “Nothing is removed in processing, so it has the highest nutrient value, including fiber,” says Sue-Ellen Anderson-Haynes, RDN, CDCES, founder of 360Girls&Women, a holistic health and wellness company in the Boston area. While semolina can be a nutritious flour - especially when it’s enriched with vitamins and minerals - whole-grain pasta has a slight edge. Many typical white pasta noodles are fashioned with semolina flour, which is made by grinding a type of wheat known as durum, according to Bob’s Red Mill. “Whole-grain pasta can be a great option because it offers more fiber, which can help blunt blood sugar spikes,” Smithson says. One easy way to make your pasta dish more nutritious is to swap out traditional noodles for a higher-fiber variety. RELATED: 15 Delicious Diabetes-Friendly Dinner Ideasīelow, diabetes educators and registered dietitians share their go-to strategies for making pasta as diabetes-friendly as possible. Taking smart steps like these when you eat pasta can help keep your blood sugar, weight, and overall health and nutrition on track. You simply need to watch your portion sizes and prepare this dish mindfully, such as by limiting certain toppings and mix-ins (like cheese, meat, and sauce). Indeed, in one large study, women with type 2 diabetes who ate a 50-gram (g) serving of pasta experienced lower spikes in blood sugar than they did after eating equal portions of white bread, potato, or rice. Though it’s higher in carbohydrates than some other foods, pasta can fit into a healthy meal plan for someone with diabetes, says Toby Smithson, RDN, a certified diabetes care and education specialist (CDCES) in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and author of Diabetes Meal Planning and Nutrition for Dummies. And if you’re living with type 2 diabetes, it’s possible you’ve heard that pasta is a food you need to avoid.īut if you love pasta and are willing to make a handful of tweaks to the typical bowl, saying goodbye to this feel-good fare may not be necessary.
